during exercise. Similar elimination of adverse hemodynamic conditions have been demonstrated in an aortic model under exercise flow conditions.6 Since stasis has been related not only to intimal thickening but also to graft thrombosis, a structured program of exercise that would periodically “clear” the anastomosis may be beneficial in extending graft patency and minimizing intimal thickening. The amount, frequency and duration of exercise periods necessary for clinical benefit requires further investigation.

Modified prosthetic vascular conduits.
Atherosclerosis in the form of peripheral arterial disease results in significant morbidity. Surgical treatment options for peripheral arterial disease include angioplasty, endarterectomy, and bypass grafting. For bypass grafting, vein remains the conduit of choice; however, poor quality and limited availability have led to the use of prosthetic materials. Unfortunately, because of a lack of en...
متن کاملLiver Transplantation Utilizing Mixed Biologic and Synthetic Arterial Conduits
Arterial conduits are necessary in nearly 5% of all liver transplants and are usually constructed utilizing segments of donor iliac artery. However, available segments of donor iliac artery may not be lengthy enough or may not possess enough quality to enable its inclusion in the conduit. Although there are few reports of arterial conduits constructed solely utilizing prosthetic material, no pr...
متن کاملRole of prosthetic conduits in coronary artery bypass grafting.
Prosthetic grafts are required for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) when the availability of suitable autologous conduits is limited. The ideal cardiovascular bypass graft requires a broad range of characteristics including strength, viscoelasticity, biocompatibility, blood compatibility and biostability. Many alternative conduits have been developed and used in the past, but most of them...
متن کامل3D bioprinting of heterogeneous aortic valve conduits with alginate/gelatin hydrogels.
Heart valve disease is a serious and growing public health problem for which prosthetic replacement is most commonly indicated. Current prosthetic devices are inadequate for younger adults and growing children. Tissue engineered living aortic valve conduits have potential for remodeling, regeneration, and growth, but fabricating natural anatomical complexity with cellular heterogeneity remain c...

Introduction & Objective: Peripheral nerve injury is common in trauma patients and 4.5% of all soft-tissue injuries are accompanied by defects of peripheral nerve. Peripheral nerve injuries can lead to lifetime loss of function and permanent disfigurement. Designed conduits com-prised of natural and synthetic materials are now widely used in the construction of damaged tissues. The aim of thi...
